Hi Ladies

just to keep you update with other international women’s day events happening around the world. Good luck to the Bribie Island ladies

BRIBIE Island Big Game Fishing Club members have a chance to land a prized catch at the International Women’s Day game fishing tournament.

The tournament, Chicks on Sticks, will be held this weekend and will open for female members of the club only.Fishing club member Annie Orchard said it would be the first year the tournament was run.“One of the guys at the club thought it would be a good idea to have just the ladies out having a go,’’ she said. Ms Orchard said while the rods would fly on the water, the competition was all in good fun. “We are all fairly friendly, it depends on what fish are out there,’’ she said. The competition will be held off Moreton Island, around Flinders Reef and Hutchinson Shoal.Adults will pay a $50 entry fee and juniors $30.A briefing will be held at the Spinnaker Marina on Friday before the action starts on Saturday.Prizes will be given after the competition.Ms Orchard said while the tournament was only open to members, the general public may be invited in the future.

Have a great day ladies. We’ve had such fabulous support from all the ladies for our events during march, they’re starting to become over subscribed

I can’t wait to inform you all Vicky’s agenda for the Jim Fearn day on the 27th March. It’s going to be a great day, thankyou Vicky

Hi Ladies

Paul Little AAPGAI with a 21.5lb Sea Trout

Paul Little AAPGAI with a 21.5lb Sea Trout

I couldn’t resist sharing this with you, I received an email 3.04am this morning from Paul Little. Some of you may be aware that he is currently fishing the Rio Gallegos river, Argentina for Sea Trout with a party organised by the chairman of AAPGAI Illtyd Griffiths and AAPGAI member Glyn Freeman

Paul has said that the fishing at times has been hard, no fish, bright and no wind. But that didn’t stop him catching a 21.5lb sea trout on the double handed rod. I know you will all be pleased for him, because he’s a gentleman when fishing who has the dogged determination of a saint, of course all the fish on the Rio Gallegos river are safely popped back.

This morning Illtyd hooked and landed a 24lb sea trout, on a single hander using his new line (an intermediate line) on a black and claret zonker.  To land a sea trout of that size with a double handed rod is special, but on a single handed rod is phenomenal. Lee Cummings is a friend of Illtyd and has told me “Illtyd is one of the worlds recognised sea trout fishermen, his depth of knowledge is exceptional”

I know that Sue Macniven will be replying to this post as she is a good friend of Illtyd and Paul’s too.

Apologies i don’t have the photo, but as soon as i get it i’ll email it to you ladies.

Paul will be back next week, ready for next weekend. He is giving a free fly tying workshop on the saturday in chester le street for the ladies, and we have the opportunity to tie salmon or trout flies at Chatton Trout Fishery on Sunday morning, or just fish. Afternoon Paul is giving us all the opportunity of tying a Classic Salmon Fly which is something he is recognised around the world for.

Its Internation Women’s month and we are shouting from the roof tops the achievements of women!

Tracy with her trophy Chatton Fishery

Tracy with her trophy Chatton Fishery

Well done to Tracey Davison, who fished in the final of the Chatton Winter Competition on sunday, and caught a total of 9 fish, coming 2nd overall. This is a great achievement as Tracy was the only lady in the competition, beating 23 seasoned fishermen.

You can see how close Tracey was when you see how many the winner caught:

1st Kevin Andrews 10 fish millenium bug 400.00 plus trophy

2nd Tracey Davison 9 fish 1.88 (1st reserve ) black buzzer 250.00

3rd Alec Bowler 9 fish 1.48 black rabbit 100.00

Jim Tracey’s partner could only manage 17th place with 3 fish. I can hear a little bit of humourous banter coming jim’s way from Mr Little, both are members of the Chatton Fishery’s team. The ladies are saying make way for Tracy.

Well done Tracey from all the ladies at ladies fishing, we look forward to seeing you on the 14th March at our fly tying and fishing event.

We were lucky to have Sue come along to our event at Christmas and since then she’s been a great supporter of ladies fishing, and how lucky are we as Sue is not only a very experienced casting instructor and fly fishing expert but also a AAPGAI assessor. Sue is only one of two ladies qualified to AAPGAI Advanced level, but also the only lady qualified in the Double Handed Rod at Advanced Level.

Illtyd Griffiths Chairman of AAPGAI comments “Advanced” level examination is intentionally rigorous and demanding in order to uphold the integrity of the entire certification process as well as maintaining the standards of game angling and fly-fishing in the UK. Advanced level candidates should be able to demonstrate their high level of ability with clarity and confidence. The AAPGAI Advanced Instructor qualification is recognised and awarded to those individuals who exhibit a broad depth of knowledge and experience in game angling and a high level of proficiency in fly casting and teaching techniques.”

During Womens international month it’s a great opportunity to promote the successful women in the angling industry and very few come with the exceptionally high credentials of Sue Macniven.

We are hoping to get Sue back for a ladies day at the end of the year, if you can’t wait till then Sue’s website is as follows: http://www.damselflyfishing.co.uk/masterclass.htm

Sue along with Annie Champion the only other lady at advanced standard is on Tim’s blog, the number one photo http://www.norfolkflyfishing.com/blog/2010/02/22/fly-fishing-women/

Sue along with Annie can be found gracing the home page of the aapgai blog http://aapgai.wordpress.com/

Well done Sue. We look forward to having another day with you.
