Weekly Fishing Report

Gone Fishing’s roving reporter was reporting from the River Tweed. It’s an over cast morning in Kelso at FishPal’s head office, which should hopefully burn off by lunchtime into another sunny day.

Highlights from the last week – River Reports

Scotland’s Queen of rivers has its best spring week decades. River Lochy good run of MSW salmon continues with a cracking 27lber caught on the fly this week.

May has been a good month on the Beauly. Good numbers of salmon made their way into the river and there has been plenty of activity when water conditions have been right.

Tweed 56 salmon to 16lbs 19 sea trout to 6lbs
River is on summer level, fish are being caught from Sunderland Hall at Galashiels down to above the tidal reaches. Beats below Coldstream are now coming into their own in the low water conditions and have caught the lions share so far. Flies that have been successful Black Francis size 12. Gledeswood Shrimp and cascades.

Spey 57 salmon up to 14lbs
Fish are being caught from the upper beats at Kinchurdy down to Lower beats at Gordon Brae. Not all beats are reporting catches, this number should be much higher.

Dee 90 salmon to 18lbs 88 sea trout average 4lbs
Another good week on the River Dee angers catching fish across the system in low clear water. Tilbouries rods caught 3 salmon yesterday.

Tay 80 salmon to 17lbs

River Itchen 6 to 15lbs so far this week. Lower Itchen anglers caught 285 salmon last year.

Tyne, EA report the upstream count for May 786 (30th May) and 946 for the year to date. Checking the river at Bywell yesterday the river is on its summer low – fish report at the start of the week 8 salmon to 14lbs.

Yorkshire Esk
Sea trout have arrived – 5 caught yesterday and one lost at 10lb plus. 12lb salmon caught this week at 9.55pm.

Travelling down from Tweed today to fish the Esk tomorrow (sunday) for the FishPal newsletter which will be sent on Wednesday 8th June.

The show is now on a summer break and will be back Saturday 9th. I will be reporting from the Tweed Ladies Day at Middle Pavilion – where the ladies are being filmed for a series for BBC Scotland.
