Ladies go fishing at Witton Castle Lakes

The ladies and their partners gathered at the lakes for an afternoon of fly fishing. Fishery officer, John Ord Renshaw, discussed flies, floating lines, lakes, plant life and weed cut. The East lake had just been cut which meant the fish would have woken up and be feeding.

We were not to be disappointed. Matthew, on East Lake, with a Greenwell fly tied by his mum, caught 5 rainbows. His mum and dad, fishing next to him, watched him cast and play his fish with pride. This is only Matthew’s second day fishing – a Red Letter Day! Well done.

The ladies fished with their partners/husbands. Lee had 5 fish and lost plenty more on East lake. Jan, fishing West lake, using a Dawson’s Olive and a faster retrieve, hooked a fine 2lb rainbow. Everyone descended on South lake, hoping for a hat trick. Sadly time was running out and our dinner date at Cafe68 was calling.

24 anglers enjoyed fine wine, food and great company at Cafe68. In between courses ladies discussed the days fishing and 50 Shades of Fly Tying !

A raffle raised Β£70 for Bishop Auckland and District Angling Club’s, Under 17 Club. Cliff and Anne said the money would be used to purchase light weight rods for the juniors.

The evening finished with the ladies expressing an interest for a weekend fishing trip. If you would like to join them on a weekend fishing trip please email annefishing@yahoo.co.uk
