Ladies salmon day is a success

Bywell Ladies introduction day February 2013The coaches woke up on Saturday morning to a foot of snow on the ground, its a Ladies Fishing event. After cancellations, delegates unable to attend and girls taking their place due snow, illness (get well soon Marion and Cliff) four ladies enjoyed an introduction to salmon fishing on Bywell Beat.

Over coffee and bacon sandwiches (thank you Ali), Paul Little demonstrated how to assemble a double handed rod, lines, reels etc. Head ghillie Gary Hilary gave a talk on safety, including lifevests and what to do if you unfortunate to fall in – including how a life vest inflates (check the Facebook images). Then it was casting tuition from our AAPGAI Master in the double handed Ladies salmon tuition from AAPGAI Master Paul Little rod Paul Little, assisted by Gary Hilary and Anne Woodcock.

Lunch as always a grand affair – Marion cooked up another culinary master piece of Andalusian style casserole  – thank you Marion – we hope your feeling better soon – you were missed.

After being watered and fed it was back to the business of the day the elusive spring salmon. Beginners’ Gilly lost 2, one on the boat, the other in Bridge Pool and Kim caught a kelt – Well done girls.

Feedback received: everyone has had an educational, enjoyable day lovely day.

Our next salmon event will be on Saturday 23rd March – 3 hour workshop for salmon fishing at Chatton Trout Fishery. This workshop is duplicated on Sunday 24th March at Witton Castle Lakes. Booking is essential contact Anne via email on annefishing@yahoo.co.uk or telephone 01388 605340
