National Go Fishing Month 2012

It has been a busy month for Ladies Fishing with events held across the region during August, encouraging families and juniors to try fly fishing for the first time.

Our involvement in National Go Fishing month events started on the opening weekend in July. Rutland Water Fly Fishers asked Anne & Paul to run the sessions on boat safety for 84 juniors at the Rutland Youth Fly Fishing Day, including being part of the team of 42 boatmen. ‘The organisers were bowled over by the response that saw 84 juniors turn up to Rutland Water to try fly fishing. (page 30 read more about the event in this months Trout Fisherman Magazine)’.

During the last seven days we’ve been delivering our own National Go Fishing Month events with sessions on equipment, fly dressing, fish preparation and smoking, including casting tuition from our qualified casting instructors Paul Little AAPGAI Master & Cliff Johnston GAIA. We are the only female club in the region with qualified casting instructors at every event and the only female club in the country with an AAPGAI Master casting instructor.

Our events started at Lockwood Beck Reservoir, North Yorkshire. Then it was off to Northumbrian Water’s fly only fishery at Hury Reservoir in Teesdale with a BBQ cooked by junior club members. Saturday at Witton Castle Lakes and Sunday at Chatton Trout Fishery.

Comments from happy customers: ‘Thank you for a great day’ said Trevor Holkham, North Yorkshire.

‘Anne it was great, he talked fishing, all the way home, thanks’ Gary Hilary, Dad to Rowan (6), Newcastle.
As a result of the successful Lockwood Beck Trout Fishery event the owner has asked if we would like to organise events for their female anglers, dates to follow soon.

We are now having a rest until the next event on Sunday 9th September at Chatton Trout Fishery.
