Salmon Fishing

If your like me, the start of the salmon season means double handed rods, sparkling reels, ghillies huts with log fires, a plethora of flies to choose from and the chance to chase a bar of the elusive silver.  Heaven !

If your very lucky you may have already been chasing bars of silver this month on the River’s Tay, Borgie, Ness or are being patient for the opening of the magnificent Tweed, Dee and Spey. Closer to home 1st February Rivers Tyne and Wear open their salmon beats. To cast a line on the first day of the season with the chance of landing the first silver bar of the river is for many anglers a dream.

5th & 6th February we are holding a 2 day salmon workshop on the Wear. The chance to go back to basics & improve your skills at the start of the season.  Cost £6.00 per day. Free to female members of FerryHill Angling Club and Bishop Auckland Angling Club.

NB: After checking fish counts for the last 15 years on the River’s Tyne and Wear I have decided to wait till the season gathers momentum and upstream counts increase significantly in the system before we start paying to fish for salmon on the River’s Tyne and the Wear. As an alternative I will be fishing other rivers with good numbers of spring salmon. Watch this space !
