We have listened to club member requests and we will be holding a series of afternoon salmon workshops from March until May at the following venues, Chatton Trout Fishery (women only places ) and Witton Castle Lakes – (places for men available)

Working with FishPal and individual River Trusts our Chairman Anne Woodcock has organised events in Scotland to encourage a network of fellow female anglers. All events will be held in Scotland, the entire cost will be donated to the individual River Trust.  The money raised will go towards funding trust projects working with schools and their respective local communities. All events have been realistically priced to encourage women and young people to try the sport of fly fishing.

Casting For Recovery UK & Ireland is a charity close to our hearts, thanks to the kind generosity of Mr Schrocksnadel we are able to continue our yearly fund-raising with a River Tyne ladies salmon day at Eltringham Beat on June 8th.

Salmon Workshops: A series of events across 3 months aimed at beginners and to those anglers who would like to learn more about fishing for salmon. The workshop is run by AAPGAI Master in the double handed rod – Paul Little. The course covers equipment, flies, water craft, casting and is supplemented with learning materials written and video. Places must be booked with Paul Little on 07885 465704

Ladies who are attending the Stillwater event,  cost will only be £5.00

River Deveron Trust – Following in the footsteps of Miss Clementine Tiny Morison: 

“At Lower Shaws on the banks of the River Deveron a record was smashed and a legend born. The fish in question was a Salmon weighing in at 61lb and a highly prised specimen and the angler being a local lady by the name of Mrs Clementina “Tiny” Morison. The record achieved was that the fish became the heaviest UK fly caught salmon. Little did she know at the time but here on Deveronside and on that day a legend was born.” read more

Saturday 1st June we are holding a ladies day on the beat that Miss Morison caught her magnificent salmon in conjunction with the River Deveron Salmon Fisheries Board. The day will consist of tuition, fishing and food – price £45. The cost of the day will be donated to the River Deveron Trust. River Annan Trust – Introduction to salmon fishing 

Working with the trust and George Birkbeck owner of Hoddom Beat, from June until August we are holding monthly ladies salmon days on Hoddom beat. The beat enjoys 2.5 miles of double bank fishing and is set amongst stunning woodland, last years catches 233 salmon. The beat is perfect for a series of ladies days, with an excellent lodge, wc facilities and a great ghillie. The events will run by AAPGAI, GAIA Casting Instructors & UKCC Level 2 Coaches. River Annan Trust – Junior Event: Ladies Fishing coaches will be running junior trout days with the trust, every Sunday after the salmon days, aimed at local children. Dates & Times Sunday 10 – 2pm. June 16th. July 14th and August 18th. Cost £3.00. Places are limited and must be booked.

River Tay – Ladies Days

The Tay is the home of record fish including the largest ever rod caught salmon in Britain which was caught by Miss Georgina Ballantine in 1922, weighing 64lbs, and which remains the British Record. Anne Woodcock has been working with FishTay Reporter Robert White and Andy Gunn Head Ghillie Newtyle beat to organise 2 days of salmon fishing – all money from these 2 events is being donated to the Tay Foundation and their schools project. Both days AAPGAI, GAIA and UKCC Level 2 coaches will be providing casting tuition.

Monday 5th August – Robert White of Benchil will guide you on one of the most picturesque beats on the River Tay. It is about six miles above the tidal reaches and offers many different types of pools to fish especially for fly. The day will consist of fishing and tuition and is priced at £75.00. Tuesday 6th August – Andy Gunn of Newtyle Beat will guide you on two miles of very picturesque middle River Tay. The beat enjoys 2 miles of double bank with 16 named pools. Over coffee and bacon sandwiches (thank you Ali), Paul Little demonstrated how to assemble a double handed rod, lines, reels etc. Head ghillie Gary Hilary gave a talk on safety, including lifevests and what to do if you unfortunate to fall in – including how a life vest inflates (check the Facebook images). Then it was casting tuition from our AAPGAI Master in the double handed rod Paul Little, assisted by Gary Hilary and Anne Woodcock.

Lunch as always a grand affair – Marion cooked up another culinary master piece of Andalusian style casserole  - thank you Marion – we hope your feeling better soon – you were missed.

After being watered and fed it was back to the business of the day the elusive spring salmon. Beginners’ Gilly lost 2, one on the boat, the other in Bridge Pool and Kim caught a kelt – Well done girls.

Feedback received: everyone has had an educational, enjoyable day lovely day.

Commencing Friday 22nd February the first brooches will be tied for Casting For Recovery UK & Ireland retreats. We have been asked to design and tie the brooches

which are given to the ladies attending the retreat. I am sure you will agree with me this is a huge honour for the group. Ladies you are welcome to join us at Bishop Auckland. We are currently running a fly dressing course for the local angling community.

Saturday 23rd February – Bywell Beat, River Tyne. Introduction to salmon fishing, including advanced tuition for experienced members. This event is sold out.

Sunday 24th February – River Annan. Fly fishing or bait fishing for the Lady of Stream. The club have been attending the grayling days organised by the Annan Rivers Trust during the winter months, fishing alongside fellow grayling enthusiasts, learning lots of top tips, and also helping the river to monitor their stock. The cost of the event is £10 which is donated to the Annan Rivers Trust.  Places are still available, including equipment.

Monday 25th February – Hoddom Beat, River Annan. The club has been invited to join the owner’s party to celebrate the opening of the Annan salmon season.

The following weekend 2nd & 3rd March the club have a stand at Glasgow Angling Centre’s open weekend.

Last November the Ladies Fishing Club donated a place for the ladies event on Saturday 23rd February to the Northumbria Branch of the Salmon & Trout Association, fund raising raffle to get more young people fishing.

The place was won by Cat McGinty of Hardy Greys who sadly can’t make it. Cat has generously given her day to a fellow female angler – but who?

The first get together of Chatton ‘Ladies Fishing Club’ in 2013 will be on Saturday 2nd February. This is an opportunity to discuss events and courses we will be running during 2013 for the club – including the launch of some very special events we’ve organised.

A decent turn out despite the heavy snow that greeted the anglers as they arrived at the cafe. By lunchtime a good few inches had fallen although that didn’t seem to stop the 22 hardy anglers landing a total of 99 fish for the day with only 2 blanks.
