With Christmas fast approaching, ladies fishing and 4 Networking have linked up with Newcastle Women’s Aid to try and help make someone’s Christmas that little bit more special this year.

Newcastle Women’s Aid offer refuge, support and advice for women and children who have been victims of, or are experience domestic violence.

This year, we are asking if anybody would like to donate a Christmas present to them. It can be for children ranging from new born through to late teens, or for the mother themselves. All presents do have to be new, boxed, and unwrapped.

Any donations would be MASSIVELY appreciated!

If you would like to make a donation, then please email me back and I will arrange to collect it from you, and deliver them all in the week leading up to Christmas. Or bring it along with you on Sunday to our event at Chatton fishery

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, and I truly hope we together can make a difference to those less privileged this year.

Thank you to all the ladies who delivered gifts on our ladies day at Chatton. If you still wish to donate a present please email Anne at annefishing@yahoo.co.uk

Macmillan Big Fish

Macmillan Big Fish

The Macmillan Big Fish

Ladies Fishing joined forces with Ali at Chatton Fishery to raise over £1001 for The Macmillan Big Fish held on the 11th October. This is our story.

The ladies were keen to enter The Macmillan Big Fish, not only was this an opportunity to enjoy ourselves fishing, but also to raise money for such a good cause.  All the money raised will be used to fund vital cancer services, from specialist nurses and doctors. It’s important to ensure that everyone is entitled to the best cancer treatment and support wherever they are”

During the 2009 season the ladies had grown in strength and enthusiasm, we also had beginners entering their first fishing competition.  So to ensure that every lady was going to enjoy the day we organized some casting days.

Our first casting day was a master class from Lee Cummings AAPGAI, who demonstrated and explained casts using the Single Handed Rod, from Roll to Spey Casts. Throughout the day there were discussions on equipment, lines, flies, fishing techniques for salt, still and rivers. The ladies had group and single tuition to perfect the chosen casts, finally finishing the day with a few hours fishing on Chatton Lakes. Two ladies Marion and Linda caught good sized trout, well done ladies. Lee concluded the day at 7.30pm with a fault finding session and his competition knowledge for the ladies fishing at the The Macmillan’s big fish day.

Second casting day, week before the event at Chatton Fishery. Cliff Johnston GAIA gave all the ladies one to one tuition perfecting their casts suitable for The Big Fish. Whilst enjoying a buffet and a glass of wine the ladies had a team talk talk from Cliff Johnston GIAC and the members of each team were picked out of a hat. The team’s were named after two flies that fish well on Derwent Reservoir, “Cats Whiskers” and “Dawson’s Olive”.

The week before the event we received many emails of support from fishing and show biz celebrities such as Charles Jardine, Hywel Morgan, Chris Tarrant and the Millionaire Team etc. Which was much appreciated on the day.

Trish one of our ladies summed up the day.

Hi all – just back from Derwent, weather-beaten is the word. The wind was so strong that even the bait fishers weren’t catching much, water thick with silt all around the shore and the final scores were not good! Mostly, the sun shone.

We tried everywhere – into the wind, with the wind behind us, from rocks, from shore, wading, cat’s whiskers, black lures, MFF’s tufties, Consett Budgies, all sorts of weird and wonderful lures and flies. We stomped around the reservoir in our waders, from bay to bay, still there was no respite from the wind. Some had takes, some thought they might have had offers, others felt nothing at all, and one poor man lost a fish when it cleared the water and snapped the leader, and those who were watching swore it was about 3ft long.

But we raised lots of money, raised a glass or two to celebrate the end of fishing at 4pm, and had a good laugh at ourselves for trying the impossible. We went our separate ways, knowing the good cause had been supported and saying ‘Never again! Well, ’til next year’.
